Felix: the sick cat rescued by an American soldier
Felix: the sick cat rescued by an American soldier
Anonim

Felix is a cat suffering from feline cerebellar hypoplasia who was adopted, still a puppy, by soldier Christine, in Afghanistan, during a military mission. They have remained together ever since.

Even among the horrors of war, it is not uncommon to find some gesture of humanity and solidarity. And that's exactly what Christine Weber Bouldin did, American soldier sent in Afghanistan.

Here, near the American military base, he saw, one day, a cat approaching with a following wobbly kitten. Christine approached, bringing him some food and water, and noticed that the kitten had some rather large ears with respect to the body. Which is why he didn't have a linear gait, but a wobbly one.

Christine became very fond of the two cats and brought them water and food every day. While the cat mother immediately became familiar with Christine, stroking her and letting herself be caressed, the little one was very scared and he would not let himself be approached. But, day after day, Christine managed to win his trust and since then the little one even let himself be taken in her arms. Christine began to inquire about possible ways to bring them, once they finished their military service, to the United States.

Unfortunately one bad day Christine saw the little one show up alone. There was no trace of the mother cat and nothing more was known about her. Christine became even more determined in taking away that little kitten as soon as possible, which he renamed Felix.

First of all, given that there was an absolute ban on bringing animals on military bases, Christine together with a colleague created a small makeshift refuge for Felix, using sandbags.

His every request to be able to bring it to the USA was rejected, until Christine turned to a local vet. Moved with compassion and determined to help her, he introduced her to an animalist who worked in Kabul.

The animalist agreed to take Felix with him and then found a way to send him to the United States.

Now Felix it has grown, lives in Christine's family and also has another cat to spend his life with in total carefree.

Christine stated that its presence in the house was therapeutic also for her, as, thanks to the lightheartedness, the wild races, the explorations, the pampering of Felix, she was able, in some way, to remove from her mind the bad and sad memories related to the war.

This sense of fulfillment also allowed her to change your life and become a mother.

Do you remember that at the beginning of the article we said that the kitten wobbled when he walked? Well, Christine found out he was suffering from feline cerebellar hypoplasia, that is a neurological condition in which the cerebellum is underdeveloped and therefore motor coordination is compromised.

But, that didn't stop Felix who lived and lives a life the same as all other cats and perhaps with that extra touch of magic!
