Back in 1966, the Mrs. Weelde, he found in front of his house, a mother cat with her kittens. He immediately took care of them, as did the stray cats that came later and offered to help all those cats, who for some reason could no longer live with their own families!

In short, in the end, her house became too small for all those cats and it occurred to her to take a boat, so that she could welcome all those cats who needed help without problems.

In 1968 the boat was bought and began to be the refuge for many stray cats! With them, the first volunteers, who were trying in some way to help the guests of the boat. The boat took the name of Tjalk and it soon became very crowded.

About 3 years after the purchase of the boat, it became too narrow for all guests and it became necessary to purchase of an additional boat, which was moored near the first. Not only were stray cats collected or brought directly by families who could no longer provide for them, but people went there, who fortunately wanted to welcome a cat into the own family.

About 10 years later, the original boat was replaced by a boat, built directly on site, much larger and more spacious, the Ark. After that it was necessary to transform everything into a Foundation. And the year in which it was "consecrated" to a real recognized entity, was June 3 of 1987. They gave him the name of: " De Poezenboot “!
