Allergy to cats makes it very difficult to take care of them and, in severe cases, even live in their own environment. There are several allergens that can cause this disorder, but the most common is constituted by Fel D1 protein contained in urine, dead skin and especially in the cat's saliva. Fortunately for many fans, some breeds of cats (called "hypoallergenic" cats) allow those who are particularly sensitive to it to come into contact with them without too many problems. In this article we will focus specifically on the Ragdoll and find out if it causes allergy or not.

In reality, the answer is a little more complex than it might seem. As already mentioned, there are several factors that can cause allergic reactions and even "hypoallergenic" cats they are not 100% sure because they only produce a smaller quantity of Fel D1 or retain it in the hair: this means not only that they continue to produce it, putting at risk the health of a person with a high sensitivity to this allergen, but also that those who are allergic to other proteins will not be protected by the specific hypoallergenic properties of the specimens of these breeds.

Added to this is the fact that the Ragdoll in particular it is not hypoallergenic in the sense that it produces a standard quantity of Fel D1. The reason why many consider it as such is due to the fact that it is safe for those who are more sensitive to other allergens (there are 7 in all).

How to go about it then? In this case, the answer is simple: if you are at risk of allergy, make sure you trace the specific agent which causes you this reaction. This way you will understand if you are relatively safe with the Ragdoll, but we still recommend a trial period before taking it with you to ensure that no problems arise over time.

If, on the other hand, the allergen turns out to be Fel D1 or some other protein, the Ragdoll is not the most suitable cat breed for you. There are still antiallergic products that reduce their effects on your health, but it could still be complicated to take care of your pet on a daily basis.
