The affair, which began in August 2018, with the complaint by the ENPA of a 41-year-old woman, resident in Lecco, accused of mistreating cats and causing the death of two, reached its peak with the opening of the process.

In August 2018 a 41 year old woman was reported by ENPA, after they had collected several testimonials and above all i veterinary reports, on the lifeless bodies of two kittens found in the woman's house.

Veterinary reports confirm that these cats have undergone one violent death. One cat was found dead of hypothermia, while the second cat's body is frozen in a freezer. Traces of a third cat have been lost, while, fortunately, another cat was saved and entrusted to expert hands who looked after him, thanks to the timeliness of the seizure by the Gip of the Court of Lecco.

The cats were entrusted to her in good faith by two people and also by one veterinarian, unaware of the real intentions of the woman, who claimed to adopt them in order to finally be able to give him a home and a quiet life.

Unfortunately, for the time being, the woman has only one restraining order not to keep animals, but apparently she continues to try to foster kittens that are between two and four months old. In recent weeks the woman has acted again but, fortunately, the investigators have managed to rescue others three cats of which two are four months old and another is a puppy of just three weeks. One of these cats has already been found to have suffered serious problems mistreatment.

The national councilor of ENPA and president of the Bergamo section of the association urged people to be careful, as women continue to look for cats even outside the region providing false identities and relying on social.

Activists, animal rights activists, volunteers and the residents of the neighborhood where the woman lives, constantly keep her under check to avoid the worst. But, it might not be enough.

The woman answers the questions of the investigators denying every time and it is feared that it suffers from some disturbances, which do not make her fully aware of the gravity of the accusations and above all of her actions.

On 14 May 2019, the process. The allegations in this regard are:

  • killing and mistreatment of animals
  • failure to comply with the provisions of the authorities

In the end, the hearing was postponed to May 21, 2019 as the judge ordered a expertise on the suspect in order to be able to correctly assess whether she is able to understand and want.

The expert, in the next hearing, will have to examine the woman and give a verdict. If this report were true, the woman could ask for access to rituals alternative. The Enpa, which was formed civil party, in a statement stated that: “In our opinion the evidence gathered against the 41-year-old is overwhelming. Of course, we await the outcome of the trial, however we hope for an exemplary sentence and that T. A will not be admitted to the benefit of the extenuating circumstances"
