Russian blue: how to recognize it
Russian blue: how to recognize it
Anonim

That of the Russian Blue is a splendid breed with mysterious origins and short gray hair (it is defined as “blue” due to the particular reflection it emits in certain light conditions); however, this feature alone is not sufficient to identify it among the many cats that have it. So let's see what are the other clues that allow us to recognize it with confidence.

Size and build

Cats of this breed are generally long-limbed, slender and muscular but give them elegant movements to which also contributes the long and tapered tail. The neck is long and slender, although the thick coat and high shoulders can hide it and make it appear shorter.

Eyes

Adult Russian Blues (over 10-12 months of age) have the eyes of a very bright green and particular: this color begins to manifest itself around 4 months of age as a shade of green on the outside of the iris and then develops gradually taking over the previous color, which at birth is blue and before 10 months is temporarily yellow.

Head and legs

The head is more angular and almost triangular compared to many other cats, and ends with a rather strong and pointed chin. The muzzle is blunt and the whisker pads are not prominent. The nose is always black and the pads of the paws, long and tapered, are mauve.

Fur

The coat of the Russian Blue is, as already mentioned, characterized by the gray color with light gray or silver ends. Since each hair bulb of this animal produces two hairs, the fur will be very dense, soft and silky but also elastic, with a tendency to return to the body if moved against the grain.

Personality

If the physical appearance were still deceptive, you could focus on the personality of the animal in front of you: the Russian Blue has a tendency to be shy with strangers, but affectionate once it gets to know them. AND playful and gentle, he lets himself be trained and loves to play fetch.

It does not meow insistently or loudly and is a excellent observer: Likes calm and tranquility, and will not hesitate to hole up in an elevated position during a particularly noisy event, to monitor the situation and reconnect when things return to normal.

However, it is a rather rare and expensive breed (its price is between 900 and 1000 euros) in the presence of pedigree. If the animal does not have one, it is possible that it is a crossbreed or a short-haired pet. Of course this doesn't make him any less worthy of finding a home and a human who welcomes him with love.
