Today we tell you the particular story of Jumbo, the cat forced to stand upright in order to survive.

Jumbo was found with his little brother just a few weeks old. We are a Spring Valley, In the Nevada.

The two cats have arrived at the veterinary center of the Orphan Kitten Club in truly disastrous conditions. Visibly undernourished, the cats struggled between life and death.

Thanks to the grueling care of an excellent team of vets, their condition improved in a few days. Or rather, one of the two has improved.

The other, Jumbo, never seemed to grow. The feline, despite eating and nourishing regularly, never gained weight and its own conditions they seemed to remain serious.

But why the cat could not increase by weight, as his brother was doing instead? The founder of the center Hannah Shaw he immediately took the Jumbo story to heart.

Determined to understand what Jumbo's problem was, she subjected the cat to numerous exams and check, until you reach the truth. It took a month and a half to understand Jumbo's pathology but, fortunately, time was not lacking.

Veterinarians discovered that Jumbo suffered from a very rare condition: the cat was born with the megaesophagus.

Put simply, Jumbo's esophagus is much larger than normal, a condition that prevented the food ingested by the cat from reaching the stomach. As a result, the feline often regurgitated and did not assimilate food.

In practice, it was as if Jumbo ate without eating, a condition that certainly did not allow him to grow and gain weight.

Despite this very serious condition, vets have not lost the hope. In a short time, in fact, they realized that the only way for the cat to survive was for it to remain upright while eating meals.

From that day on, therefore, Jumbo is forced to eat while standing and to remain so for the next 20 minutes. The time, that is, to allow the food to reach it stomach.

Of course, it is a difficult and very heavy condition, but it is the only one that has allowed the cat to survive.

Today, in fact, Jumbo is better off. She has already started to gain weight and seems to be as happy as any other feline.

Now he is still being treated at the veterinary center, given his particular conditions. Very soon, however, it will be ready to be adopted and to know the family who will want to take care of him.
