How many and which ones colors presents this breed of felines? The Abyssinian is a tabby cat with a specific ornamental "agouti". L' "Agouti" it is a gene that predominates over all other tabby genes and does not allow the visualization of specific ornamental tabby. Proof that the cat is a tabby it is given by the characteristic "M" on the forehead.

These felines don't have a single color on their body, but rather a color group which come together to create the tabby motifs. This particular "ticking" motif is found only in two other breeds: Somali and Singapura.

To create the effect ticked, the base of each hair is lighter and the hairs are naturally divided into bands in which, every fourth or third successive band, tends to have a darker color at the tips. Thus positioned, the hairs give the illusion that the cat changes its color when it moves. While such schemes are typical in hares, it is not something commonly seen in cats.

The hair shows a tabby motif all over the body except the tail, legs, spinal crests and hind legs. The pattern does not exist when cats are born, but appears gradually over time. Indeed puppy hair is darker and fade to lighter shades as they grow. Their eye color can be gold or green, often with a beautiful richness and depth of color.

The legs and nose, however, are darker in color with black legs and a brackish red nose depending on the color that is used for the ticking effect.

This, however, is the most difficult color combination to perfect since it often has dark spots around the coat that remove all the ticking effect. If, however, you manage to find the perfect silver Abyssinian cat, then it would certainly be a sight to behold.

The silver color is also found in other shades which are classified according to the color used for the tick effect.
