That of Persian cat is one of the most loved and popular cat breeds in the world if not the most popular of all. But do you know that there are several varieties, some of which have been cataloged as separate breeds? We will illustrate you all types of Persian cat in this article.

Let's make a necessary premise: there are so many Persian cat farms in the world that it is impossible to list all the existing varieties, even if we know that they are about two hundred. However, there are some macro-groups into which they can be divided.

The Persian Dollface it is also known as Traditional Persian or Old Fashioned, and is thought to be the progenitor of the breed itself: this cat is practically identical to those depicted in the oldest Persian images ever found. This variety is so called because it does not have extreme somatic features: its nose has a normal length, is proportionate to the rest of the muzzle and, contrary to that of the Peke-face, which we will illustrate later, it protrudes outwards. As a result, this cat is "spared" from many of the health problems that other Persians suffer from. However, it has the same long, thick hair it requires care and attention frequent and on a regular basis.

The Persian Peke-face it is the one that has the most recognizable and universally attributed traits to this breed, caused by a genetic mutation. The name in this case highlights the resemblance to the Pekingese dog. This cat has a square head, a very small nose and a rather long jaw; he also has rounded cheeks and huge round eyes. These characteristics cause it remarkable breathing problems and sometimes even asthma. In addition to taking care of their long, thick coat, owners of these cats also need to take care to dry their eyes, which often have problems with excessive tearing: it can in fact stain the hair and above all cause eye infections.

THE Persian Chinchillas they are a very particular variant and are called in this way because of their thick and swollen coat, very similar to that of the South American rodent. Although there are several versions depending on the color, most of these Persians are white in color. The eyes are green or blue and both muzzle and lips are rimmed with the same color of the coat or black. Since they are purebred specimens they tend to suffer from genetic disorders that mainly affect the kidneys and heart. They too can have a flattened snout and this leads to the aforementioned respiratory ailments.

The Persian Teacup it is named so because it is practically miniature and never reaches the size of a normal cat. As adorable as the appearance is, it is good to remember that regular-sized Persians already suffer from many health problems, and the fact that these specimens remain small exposes them to further complications: this is once again the case of the flattened snout, which in absence of growth creates even more difficulty in breathing. As if that weren't enough, these cats also have problems managing stress and regulating their body temperature.

Then, as we have already mentioned, there are categories of Persian who have assumed the status of a separate breed at least in some feline associations: among these we have the Himalayan and the Exotic Shorthair.
