Not all famous people live in a world of their own: some celebrity they remind us of very valuable lessons, such as how important it is to adopt an animal. When he was 5, my son Mingus began to insistently ask me to get him a black kitten. "Why really black?" I asked him, and he: "I really need it, dad, please." There was no way to dissuade him, so I started looking all over New York City for a black kitten to take home to him.
All black cats were much rarer than I thought! I was about to give up, when I finally happened to be at an animal shelter in the East Village where they had recently found a black kitten abandoned in an alley, inside a box.
I said to the manager “Perfect, I want that” and he replied: “We have a lot of kittens, take one of those and leave this one alone. This will never be able to love anyone . But I had no choice because my son was very clear, so I took him anyway.
In fact, he was aggressive, I saw him blowing and scratching whatever or person he came across and on the way home I too was scratched everywhere. But it took a short time for this kitten to become adorable and affectionate. As soon as he saw it, my son decided to call him Eye In The Dark because it blended perfectly with the black floor of our house, except when he kept his eyes open.
Reedus, his family and Eye In The Dark are now inseparable. "I take him with me whenever I can, also because he hates staying home alone and doesn't hesitate to mess up a room in protest". And a wave of popularity immediately hit this beautiful cat, who can now even boast an Instagram profile of his own to keep his admirers up to date, just like a true celebrity!
